Bala Shark

The Bala Shark (Balantiocheilos melanopterus) emerges as a captivating species in the freshwater aquarium world, captivating enthusiasts with its striking colors and dynamic presence. Originating from Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Borneo, and Sumatra, it goes by various names such as Tricolor Shark, Silver Shark, Tricolor Sharkminnow, and Silver Bala, reflecting its diverse hues and agile nature.

With a lifespan of 9 to 10 years and an average size of 12.75 inches, the Bala Shark is characterized by its communal temperament, thriving best when kept in groups of four or more. The fish displays a preference for pebbles and mud substrate and tends to occupy the middle swim zone.

A diverse diet is key to their well-being, including algae wafers, blanched vegetables, bloodworms (in various forms), brine shrimp, live daphnia, flakes, pellets, and tubifex worms. Maintaining optimal water parameters, such as a fast water flow, pH levels between 6.25 and 8.0, and a temperature range of 73.25°F to 82.0°F, ensures the health and vibrancy of Bala Sharks. Adonis Tetra
